Making Espresso At Home When You’re On A Budget
January 16, 2012 on 7:02 am | By admin | In Food and Drink | Comments OffSo you want to make good quality espresso in your own home but don’t have a lot of money. I hear you. And in fact, it’s not as difficult as you might think – you just have to know what to look for in an espresso machine.
The first thing that I’d like to state right off the bat is that an espresso machine is only as good as its espresso grinder. If you have a poor-quality blade grinder that spits out inconsistent espresso grinds, than now matter how expensive your machine is, you are always going to be producing sub-par espresso.
Instead, try to invest in a pretty good burr or conical grinder. There are several around the $100 price range, including the Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder. Although a cheap burr grinder is not as good as an expensive one, it is miles ahead of a blade grinder or “pre-bought” espresso.
Next up is the espresso machine.
As far as cheap espresso machines go, it is important to recongize what makes a good espresso machine. The best one’s are always made out of stainless steal and are pump-driven. Avoid machines with too much plastic on them (a good sign they will break easily) and definetly avoid steam-powered espresso machine – they simply cannot generate enough pressure for a good shot of espresso.
Other than that, it is important to do research.
Have a look at consumer reviews and expert opions. Often times reading what others have to say can be extremely helpful when you’re making a purchasing decision. Check out this article for an idea on one of the best espresso machines under 200.
