Healthy Pumpkin Cookies Recipe
November 25, 2010 on 7:48 am | By admin | In Food and DrinkCookies are one of the countless desserts in the world that basically everyone loves and takes pleasure in; there are so many types of cookies, oatmeal, chocolate chip, sugar, butter, ginger, peanut butter, and dozens of others. Though the kind we will focus on primarily are pumpkin cookies.
Pumpkin cookies have a soft, almost cake-like consistency to them unlike some of the tougher oatmeal or ginger cookies. Like with all other things there are numerous diverse ways to create pumpkin cookies, it is based on a person’s an individual’s choice. Some individuals use canned pumpkin, some choose to go natural, some utilize canola oil, others utilize butter, and especially when it comes to toppings the options are infinite; you may use some kind of frosting, any kind you want or one may employ chocolate chips, nuts or some sort of glaze of your choosing.
Because there are so many different techniques to make pumpkin cookies, a good way would be to perform an internet search and inspect all the diverse variations available; this way you may attempt a couple or all of them and see which recipe and method you favor. Although everybody has their individual technique of making pumpkin cookies, there are however, some fundamentals that a person may adhere to so here is a easy recipe for making pumpkin cookies; remember that an individual may always replace or include other ingredients if you choose.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening/unsalted butter or 1/3 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 15 oz. can pure pumpkin puree (not pumpkin filling)
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, in a bowl, merge the oil, sugar, vanilla, egg and pumpkin puree and mix as one until the concoction is light and fluffy. Then include the additional ingredients, the flour, baking soda, baking powder, pumpkin-pie spice and the salt and mix only until the ingredients are completely combined, attempt not to over-touch.
Then employ a spoon (size is up to you) and drop the dough on baking sheets within 1-2 inches apart; bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until lightly brown, move cookies to wire racks once they are finished and allow them to cool entirely. Once they have cooled you may progress and put in whatever topping you choose.
The pumpkin cookies recipe is just around the same as a Sugar cookies recipe, so do not be depressed if you can’t locate a recipe that explicitly says ‘pumpkin cookies’ since you can simply employ the recipe for sugar cookies and add the pumpkin puree.
You may serve pumpkin cookies individually with the glaze, topping or frosting of your choosing or you may create a pumpkin cookie sandwich using for example, cream cheese frosting which is a popular option with pumpkin cookies; if you do create sandwiches, using an ice cream scoop to apply the frosting can make the task a little smoother.

Simple Tips: How to Cook a Turkey for Christmas or Thanksgiving
November 23, 2010 on 6:04 am | By admin | In Food and DrinkThe only big thing to remember when learning how to cook a turkey, is that it takes quite a few hours for a large turkey to cook completely. You don’t want to risk the health of your guests with one that doesn’t cook down to the bone – so give it enough baking or roasting time. However, it doesn’t stop cooking once you turn off the oven or even take it out of the oven, so don’t dry it out by overcooking.
Don’t leave it in the oven after it’s done while you prepare other dishes. Rather, take it out when it’s finished and there’s about twenty minutes to go. Get your other dishes ready, and then your turkey will have cooled just enough for you to begin carving and feeding your hungry guests!
There are many easy ways to learn how to cook a turkey! To know when a turkey is properly cooked, this is how the meat should look: The white meat should be moist while the dark meat is tender enough to pull apart easily with a fork. The perfect thing for your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner party.
Whether you’re buying a turkey that’s fresh or frozen, you’ll need approximately a pound (or maybe a pound and a half) per person at your table. It’s always wiser to buy a bigger bird if you can, because there are so many recipes you can access for delicious leftover recipes. For instance, such as turkey soup can be stored for the winter.
Don’t worry that you don’t know how to roast one. Just set your oven low (325 degrees F or 160 degrees C), allow enough time, put the turkey in a pan and slide it into the oven.
Like learning any other task, perfecting a recipe for your holiday turkey will take plenty of rehearsal. Even distinguished chefs encourage honing your skills with a smaller sized turkey before you embark on your holiday work of art. Only a small number of cooks can boast that their first bird was perfection. With every endeavor you will become more at ease with the task at hand and your finished product will improve.
Cooking a turkey isn’t hard! Here is all that you need to know: Unless you’re going to be cooking a stuffed turkey, which takes about 20 minutes per pound (or an hour per kilo), all that you have to do is permit the turkey to cook about 45 minutes per kilo.
1. Allow the oven to heat up to 325. Then remove all wrappings from turkey to establish the weight of the bird and cooking time. Dispose of the giblet bag and turkey neck from body. After that, proceed to wash the bird thoroughly – inside and out – followed by patting it dry afterward.
2. After seasoning according to taste, place turkey breast side up into a shallow roasting pan and place thermometer in thigh. Add 1/2 cup of water into bottom of roasting pan if desired. Roast to perfection and enjoy!
3. Using heavy duty aluminum foil, loosely cover the turkey. Roast the turkey until the internal temperature is 180 degrees. Make sure you check the temperature in the thickest part of the thigh. (Cooking time is contingent on weight of the bird. A twenty pound turkey, for example, will take from 4 1/2 to 5 hours to cook, so check the turkey after 4 1/2 hours.)
4. In the meantime, combine stuffing/dressing. Place it in your casserole and put it in the oven for the final 60 minutes or so of roasting time.
5. Remove foil tent after between 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours hours of cooking and browning the skin. If desired, brush with a vegetable oil to reinforce browning.
6. When the temperature rises to 180 °F, an entire turkey is done. The thigh juices ought to be clear (not pink) when you pierce it with a fork, and the joints of the leg should be easy to move.
7. Let turkey sit for about twenty to thirty minutes before you carve it. This will permit the juices to flow through the meat evenly.
A crucial means in learning to prepare your Christmas or Thanksgiving turkey recipe is to remember that cooking times differ. The USDA strongly advocates implementing a meat thermometer to establish whether your turkey is finished cooking. There are a host of reasons why cooking times can differ, including oven temperatures being inaccurate, the bird being extremely cold or even partially frozen, and/or the pan you use my reduce the flow of heat by being to small.
Recipes How To Make Cheese Sauce
November 21, 2010 on 6:04 am | By admin | In Food and Drink
Cheese is probably one of the best things to go with most of our food. It tastes good alone and with other food. It is good and healthy for our body too. As well as being a personal favourite of mine. To add on, what do you say when you are taking a photo? “Cheese~”
However, just by placing a slice of cheese on your food does not seemed very appealing. Would it be better if it becomes a thick and tasty sauce to go with your food or your nachos when you are watching a movie?
Here is a quick guide to make cheese sauce in a few easy steps.
Firstly, you will need the ingredients:
* 120g of Cheese (Preferably Cheddar or Parmesan Cheese) * 600ml of Milk * 40g of Flour * 40g of Butter * Salt & Pepper (To add to its flavour, you can include other seasonings that you would like to add in while cooking your cheese sauce)
A little thing to note before cooking is that if the fire is not at a low heat, the sauce might start splattering everywhere so be careful about it!
Let’s start cooking!
1. Pour the milk and add the flour and butter into the pan. 2. Set the fire at a low heat and stir continuously until everything becomes liquid form and near its boiling point. 3. Turn the heat a little down and continue stirring until the liquid becomes a thick and smooth sauce. 4. Add the cheese and the salt and pepper for flavouring. 5. Continue stirring till the cheese melts and becomes part of the sauce. 6. Your cheese is ready to serve!
This cheese sauce will go great with your broccoli, pasta or nachos! Other than that, you are not restricted in the places you can pour your cheese sauce on. Remember to serve it hot so that it will taste its best.
What are the advantages of eating cheese?
Cheese is rich in calcium and protein, and other benefits that milks give us. Consuming cheese before sleeping helps you sleep better and it helps to relieve stress too as it contains tryptophan. This is opposite to the rumour that cheese gives us nightmare if we consumed it before sleeping.
It seems that cheese is filled with rich goodness and popular in many countries on Earth. No matter how tasty cheese can be, eating too much of it is not good either, just like how too much of anything is bad for the health too. Cheese contains a large portion of fat and if you do not want to add on to your weight, be careful when you find yourself munching on cheese for a long time!
Vegetarian Cooking Classes on the Rise
November 20, 2010 on 7:16 am | By admin | In Food and DrinkDemand for vegetarian cooking classes at the New School of Cooking in Los Angeles has been on the rise for several years. There are many contributing factors to this trend.
First, there is a new found appreciation for the importance of eating locally. A growing number of authors, cookbook writers and activists including Michael Pollan, Alice Waters, Deborah Madison, and Good Food host Evan Kleiman have helped enlighten us to the importance of eating vegetables in season, and from local sources.
By buying our produce from any of the dozens of Los Angeles area farmer’s markets, we are contributing to a movement to support local farmers, healthy growing practices and superior food quality. While not everyone who takes a vegetarian cooking class is or plans to become a vegetarian, a growing number of people are trying to get more vegetables on their plates and need a little help knowing how to do that creatively. In the early days of vegetarianism, many people believed that in order to be healthy, one had to replace the amount of protein found in meat. And that didn’t necessarily help the cause. By assuming you had to get your protein from tofu, rice and beans, vegetarianism looked pretty dreary to carnivores and vegetarians alike. Many scientific studies both in the field and the laboratory have concluded that that premise was entirely flawed. In countries and communities where people consume a mostly plant based diet, there are far fewer instances of obesity, heart disease, cancer and diabetes; and moreover, people live longer. In fact, we now know that most Americans are consuming far too much meat protein. So the current wisdom on vegetarian eating is that there is plenty of protein in a plant based diet.
Another cause for the increased demand for vegetarian cooking classes in Los Angeles comes from an understanding that our current industrial agricultural practices are absolutely and unequivocally unsustainable. The monocultures of corn and soy supported by our government are unhealthy for our bodies and devastating for our planet. Because of subsidies to these crops, we have created surpluses which we have forced onto our livestock. We’ve created unhealthy cows and pigs by feeding them crops that they would otherwise not consume and then are required to treat them with antibiotics and other harmful chemicals to keep them alive.
Easy Cooking Halloween Recipes for the Halloween Season
November 20, 2010 on 6:02 am | By admin | In Food and DrinkHalloween is a favorite holiday for a lot of kids mostly because of the candy and treats they get to indulge in. Traditionally, treats for Halloween consisted of store bought candy corns, and other assorted Halloween favorites. Making caramel covered apples and popcorn balls used to be a long time favorite when it came to homemade Halloween treats. Today, there are more creative ideas available for you and your family than ever before.
In our house, baking is as much a tradition for Halloween as it is for most families for Christmas. We spend the time making cookies, all assortments of candy, and cakes that would fancy the most distinguished sweet tooth. You don’t have to have a lot of special equipment or fancy cookbooks to enjoy doing this. Most of what you need you’ll find in your cupboards or can pick up on your next grocery trip.
Grab a pack of Halloween cookie cutters and roll out some sugar cookies. You can use different colored icing, or you can even buy Halloween cookie and cake decorating kits at your local craft store that are packed full of fun shaped sprinkles, precolored frostings, and decorations that you can add. I even saw pumpkin and ghost shaped cupcake tins on our recent shopping trip.
Bat treats are a favorite at our household. Would you like to learn how to make them? That is no problem. First, bake a batch of brownies in a 9/13 sheetpan. You can use your favorite brownie mix from your grocery store. Now, here is the fun part. Instaed of slicing them into squares and rectangles like you normally would, grab a bat shaped cookie cutter. Pipe on some white icing fangs to make vampire bat, and add chocolate chip eyes if you want to an extra touch. There you go, bat treats.
Halloween is a time of costume making and preparing special treats. It’s the perfect time of the year to get the kids involved in the kitchen and helping to prepare different types of dishes, including the fun and spooky ones. You’re not just making treats and goodies in the kitchen, you’re making holiday memories that will last a lifetime. So have a great time and enjoy the day with your family on the “sweetest” day of the year.

The original shortbread cookie recipe probably used oat flour but was ultimately replaced with wheat flour when the English adopted it because at that time in England, oats were considered animal food. Traditional shortbread is made round and then sliced into wedges, for the Scots the slices stood for the sun rays in the winter season. Presently the shortbread cookie recipe is one of the most popular enjoyed year round, mainly during the Christmas time. 2 cups of all-purpose flour (sifted)
2 grams of salt
2 sticks of room temperature unsalted butter
1/2 cup powdered confectioners
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instruction on short bread recipe:

2. Mix the flour and salt into individual container and now steadily put in flour until the mixture is fully incorporated.
3. Massage the batter into an orb and then put it in a plastic covering. Then place the cookie dough into the refrigerator and allow it to chill for at least 60 minutes, although this is optional.

5. Preheat the oven to 177 degrees then line the baking sheets with parchment sheets.
